DJ Booth Story

During my exhibition in June 2019 a creative team contact me and, based on the work they witnessed, they asked me to participate in a large-scale project. The task, assigned by the Municipality of Thessaloniki, was to build a series decorative urban furniture for the 2019 Christmas festivities.

Apart from participating in the building process, I was asked to design and build one item from scratch, a geodesic dome used as a DJ booth, for which I was only given a single CGI, no dimensions, no plans, no materials, no location, just an image and… an 18-day deadline! Geometry, engineering, architecture and craft all had to kick in at once whilst the rest of the project was still under way.

It was a complex structure that once finished and approved by the committee, had to be dismantled, transported and reassembled in-situ using only portable power tools.
The dome was almost ready 15 days later (and 2 design alterations on the fly). That project commenced as interesting, it went to challenging, then turned out amazing… The municipal committee assigned us the best possible location right in the center of city’s main square (Aristotelous Square), on a raised platform!

My first urban furniture turned from an impossible experience to a glorious event giving me a vibrant smile and rising loads of eyebrows!
