BOAT FURNITURE

On a Sunday afternoon I received a call from a boat manager asking me to manufacture brass cupholders for his boat, providing exact dimensions and specifications. Later that night I sent him a video of a 3d model and explained that we can 3d print it and then make cast in copies. The response came immediately… is 10:00 next morning convenient for a meeting?

The next morning, I was astonished, I stood before a gorgeous wooden boat that had just time travelled from the past!

The boat, built in 1931, had just come out of a major refit and several additions were required. Apart from the cup holders, I was assigned a series of different projects. The most challenging was a buffet furniture behind the sun deck bar, embracing the boats funnel, used for bottle and glass storage. The description was: A curbed brass frame, a matching curbed wooden cabinet with 2 drawers, a marble top with background lighting and 2 bottle racks on top!

Several specialists were assigned to compete different parts of this furniture whilst I prepared the lighting installation. Since the specialists’ shop locations spanned at a 100Km radius, I sent them all the same file with the design and additionally a 1:1 print to make sure all of us were (literally) on the same page.
Fast forward a month later, all components got delivered simultaneously at the boat where the final assembly was scheduled and while I was confident all should fit together it was still a nail-biting process! Amazingly all components fit perfectly as if the buffet came out of a Swedish company carboard box! but the magic moment came a couple of nights later when the bartender was preparing his “new office” and sent me this amazing photo.
